Wicked
The retelling of the classic Wizard of Oz story is set on stage at the Apollo Victoria Theatre on London’s West End. The musical, Wicked, has been running at the Apollo Victoria since 2006 and continues to experience the success. The opening week of the musical broke records as it boasted the highest opening week box office sales. ‘Wicked’ grossed over £100,000 in the first hour of ticket sales alone.
The musical has previously been shown on Broadway and has been successfully running there since 2003. During this time it was nominated for ten Tony Awards and successfully obtained the Tony Award for Best Actress, Scenic Design and Costume Design. The musical has been performed internationally at locations which include over 30 cities across America and Canada, Japan, Australia and on London’s West End.
The story is an adaptation of the Gregory Maguire novel; Wicked: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West. The story is a parallel of the L. Frank Baum story the Wizard of Oz. The Gregory Maguire novel tells the story from the perspective of the witches in the Land of Oz. The alternative story has become massively popular as the musical continues on stage.
