Stomp

Location: New Ambassadors Theatre

Stomp has been wowing crowds for quite some time now, managing to entertain people with only the most simple of equipment at their disposal; but then, that’s the point. Stomp takes ordinary household items and turns them into brilliant musical instruments. Somehow it manages to do this and create a full show out of it – and a brilliant one at that. Created by Luke Cresswell and Steve McNicholas it has been seen by enthusiastic people all over the world, with London’s Ambassadors Theatre being the best place to catch it in the UK.

And all of this has taken place since 1991 when Stomp first emerged at the Bloomsbury Theatre in London, originally only with 8 members of the cast, who would soon expand to over 30 and begin to resemble the epic ensemble we witness today.

The first sign of any success came after the initial London run, with the show emerging in cities around the world, from Barcelona in Spain to Sydney in Australia. Stomp had found its feet, and it was not going to lose them any time soon.

It is all a testament to the sheer talent of the show’s creators Luke Cresswell and Steve McNicholas that the show has been such a success. After all, the show we all love and enjoy was the result of a decade’s worth of collaboration between the two men and the payoff for many years of hard work.

But many ask, what exactly is Stomp? It’s a good question, but they themselves probably offer the best answer, describing themselves as a percussive stage performance. But instead of using drums and various other musical instruments, Stomp creates its sound with the use of ordinary household items, which is why many pictures of Stomp show the cast carrying bin lids and other random objects. They combine these elements with amazing choreography that makes the dance routines really stand out, making it a show that is full of energy and enthusiasm. So by taking a trip to Stomp, you will be witnessing people create music from the likes of hubcaps, keys, brooms, beer cans, work boots, matchboxes, lighters and many other items that many of us would never have thought of!

Stomp has been seen around the world, from Hong Kong to Brazil as well as appearing in various parts of the UK, including Edinburgh. But catch this show where it all started, in London, by purchasing your Stomp tickets today.
